Technology Reflection Assignment
.

Description/Experience

The technology that was demonstrated in the last lecture was the smart boards. The smart board is a tool that teachers and students can use to gain a better understanding of the lesson. The teachers can use the smart board to help their students gain a better understanding of the material. For example one of the examples that we were shown in class was the crayon physic lab. It was a program that allowed the students to interact with the board and at the same time use some physic problems such as gravity and the idea that an object in motion will tend to stay in motion.
Application
Describe an instructional activity (e.g. part of a lesson plan) where you or your host teacher can incorporate this technology. Consider an activity that can be conducted in 15-20 minutes.
For this lesson the students will be working with the smart boards with spelling. How this would work is the students will first do a review of the spelling words with the teacher by playing a game of hangman on the smart board. The teacher would pick a word then draw the same amount of lines as there are letters in the word. The students would be split into two different teams (boys vs. girls). After the game is over the teacher would have the students come up to the white board and create a sentence with spelling words in the sentence. This will also help with the students understanding of the proper use of sentence structure
First, provide some details regarding:
·     Learners: This lesson will be designed for students that are in the second grade within the general classroom.

·     Learning outcomes: At the send of this activity the students will be able to form a well-rounded sentence and will be able to spell the words correctly every time that they come about.
·     Assessment: The students would take a spelling exam that is how the students would be assed with the spelling words. The students would critique their peer’s sentences after they were done writing them on the smart board. If the students found something wrong with the sentence they would go to the bard and circle what was wrong and explain what needed to be fixed in order for the sentence to be correct.

Second, break down your activity into a timeline of planned events and procedures. Here you should describe what students and the teacher will be doing chronologically during the activity. Below is one of the good examples from previous reflections:
·     The lesson will began with an introduction of the spelling words and a general rule of how to play hang man and how the teacher will want the students to do.
Next the students will be split into two different teams.
For the next 10 minutes or so the students will be playing the hang man game competing against each other.
Next the students are to come up to the smart board to create the sentences. This will take about another 10 minutes or so.

Reflection
The use of the smart boards will help with the teaching of the spelling words and sentence structure because the students can easily see what they correct way is to do them. Plus it is a way to give instance feedback which will help your students in the long run.
This will help the students gain a better understanding of the subject because it will show the students instantly what they are doing right and wrong. This will show the students what they need to work on so that they are able to better the next time.
--Pedagogical-Content:

I would represent the concept by having example set up for the students to look at and model. There would be example for both parts of the lesson. I would have an example of small part of a text with a vocabulary word in the text. Using probably the highlighter component on the computer highlight the word indicating that is what the students are looking for.  The nest thing that I would have an example for is the using of the word in a sentence. I would model one for the students so they know exactly how I would like to see the sentence written.
Students of different ages and backgrounds could bring some different ideas when it comes to forming different sentences. For example students who are older will have a more complex sentence than that of a student who is much younger than them. Also having students who may have a different background could bring in a different meaning to the vocabulary words. Such as if you had a child who family calls a shopping cart something completely different they would have a different idea of what that word means to them

--Technological-Pedagogical:
Using this technology would change the way the content is resented by allowing the student to have something that they can referee back too over and over to make sure that they are doing what is expected of them. Also if the students have questions about an assignment this technology allows students to ask the teacher and their other classmates questions even when they are not in school.

In the previous section, you talked about your instructional strategies. Keeping these strategies you stated in mind, now tell us how the technology is used in your activity.  Specifically:
·     What main instructional strategies would this technology use serve in your activity? How would using the technology support the way you teach this activity? Please give examples and be specific to your described activity. Think about your main teaching strategies that this technology would support.
·     What different classroom management strategies you might need to consider when using this technology in the activity? Give examples and be specific to your described activity.

--Technological Pedagogical Content:

The content would be taught thru using this technology and proper pedagogies by having the teacher molded what the students are meant to be doing and also by using this technology the students are able to have accuse to the modes that the teachers have done so they can look aback to them to make sure that they are doing the right thing.
This technology can enhance the way how we can teach a lesson. Now we have the ability to post different links and websites so that the students have even more tools at their disposal to work on the subject. This technology can also help you as the teacher see almost instantly where your students maybe struggling. This also ties into how this technology can help guide you to what to teach. If you can see almost instantly what your students are having problems with you will know what you need to cover more.
I would choose my teaching strategies based on how well I thought my students understood the lesson. If they understood every ting just fine then I would kept my current strategies. But if they seemed to have trouble with the lesson then I know it’s time to maybe change things up. The best way to see if this is happening would be to use the technology because it allows you to see so quickly what the problem areas are if they have any at all.

  1. I really like the idea of playing Hangman to learn and practice the spelling words. I also liked you also made another activity within this one where students write and fix sentences. Students seem to respond well to "game" type learning activities but I am afraid at this age students might get very upset if another student in the classroom corrects their work. Also instead of seperating the teams by gender you could also pick teams based upon their seating location in the room. their name, or what kind of clothing they were wearing (tee shirt, blue jeans etc.)
