Technology Reflection Assignment

The technology that was presented in the last seminar was all about using Ipads within the classrooms. They talked about how you can use the different apps and programs to get your students motivated about the lesson. Also it talked about how you can use the different apps to assist your students who may need a little extra help. One thing that I liked about this discussion was learning about how easy it is to work them into your lesson every day I thought it would be somewhat more difficult to work them into the lesson.

Application
A lesson that this program can be used for is teaching the students different vocabulary words and how to use those words with sentences. The student must complete a vocabulary word hunt were their vocabulary words are hidden within a certain text. Once they find the words with in the text they are to use the context clues in order to find out what the word means. Once they feel they understand what the word means they are to come up with their own sentence using the vocabulary term. The students will need to be using a app that is approved by myself that allows them to find the vocabulary words in a fun interactive way.

·   Learning outcomes – the students will gain a better understanding of the vocabulary words and how to use these words within sentences and other written work but also to use in conversations as well. Also how to use context clues to find the meaning of words.

·   Learners – This lesson will be designed for students who are in the fifth grade.

·   Assessment –The students will have to indicate that they have found the correct word with in the given text. Then they will have to use that word in a sentence that they came up with on their own.

For the first several minutes the students will go over what the vocabulary words with the teacher as a large group. Next they will long on to the previously created app by the teacher that has a given text. . This should take several minutes by the time they read the text find the words and use the context clues to find the meaning of the words. The rest of the time should be spent coming up with the students own sentences using the vocabulary words. While the students are working on this the teacher will be monitoring the students to see if they are truly doing the work on their own. They also will be able to help in any way that they can.

Pedagogy-Content:

·   I would represent the concept by having example set up for the students to look at and model. There would be example for both parts of the lesson. I would have an example of small part of a text with a vocabulary word in the text. Using probably the highlighter component on the Ipad highlight the word indicating that is what the students are looking for.  The next thing that I would have an example for is the using of the word in a sentence. I would model one for the students so they know exactly how I would like to see the sentence written. 

·   Students of different ages and backgrounds could bring some different ideas when it comes to forming different sentences. For example students who are older will have a more complex sentence than that of a student who is much younger than them. Also having students who may have a different background could bring in a different meaning to the vocabulary words. Such as if you had a child who family calls a shopping cart something completely different they would have a different idea of what that word means to them

Technology:

·   The major function of this technology is so that the students have a educational tool that they can use to post assignments, ask questions, and do some more discovering about the class all set up in a way that is familiar to them and is something that they also enjoy doing as well. This is great way to have the students become more interested in the class because you are presenting the information to them in a fun and interesting way.

·   All of the information is very easy to find. Everything that the student could need to do the assignment will be on the classes’ home page. They will find several links to click on that can take them to other educational sites. They also can see very clearly what and when something is due by.

Technology-Pedagogy:

·   The technology would be used in this activity by first having the students read a text that is on the main part of the classes’ page and using the computer highlighting tool, highlighting the vocabulary words that they meant to find threw out the text. Next the students will post their sentences that they made up using the vocabulary words into the assignment drop off box that is also on the classes’ home page.

·   How would using the technology change the way you teach this activity?  Having the use of technology really would not have that much effect on the way I would teach this lesson. I would still review the words with the class as a whole so that everyone has a clear understanding of what the words are so they know what to look for when they read the text. The only thing that I can think of that would be any different is the ability to give the students back instant fed back about they are doing right and what could still use a little work.

·   One classroom management skill that you would have to consider when doing an lesson like this would be to make sure that every student feels comfortable enough to use a computer on their own. Also you would need to make sure that the students will stay only on the sites that you allow them to be on.

·        using this technology would change the way the content is resented by allowing the student to have something that they can referee back too over and over to make sure that they are doing what is expected of them. Also if the students have questions about an assignment this technology allows students to ask the teacher and their other classmates questions even when they are not in school.

Technology-Pedagogy-Content:

·   The content would be taught thru using this technology and proper pedagogies by having the teacher molded what the students are meant to be doing and also by using this technology the students are able to have accuse to the modes that the teachers have done so they can look aback to them to make sure that they are doing the right thing. 

·   This technology can enhance the way how we can teach a lesson. Now we have the ability to post different links and websites so that the students have even more tools at their disposal to work on the subject. This technology can also help you as the teacher see almost instantly where your students maybe struggling. This also ties into how this technology can help guide you to what to teach. If you can see almost instantly what your students are having problems with you will know what you need to cover more. 

·   I would choose my teaching strategies based on how well I thought my students understood the lesson. If they understood every ting just fine then I would kept my current strategies. But if they seemed to have trouble with the lesson then I know its time to maybe change things up. The best way to see if this is happening would be to use the technology because it allows you to see so quickly what the problem areas are if they have any at all.

Description/Experience

          In the class we were introduced to a program called Edmodo. This program is set up very similar to the poplar social media site “Facebook“. Both teachers and student have the opportunity to post comments and questions on their class’s wall. The teacher is also able to post online homework assignments on the page as well. The homework assignments can be interactive or they could be as simple as having the students respond back to a post on the class wall. Also this site is not just for one class, teachers of a certain subject can use this to gain ideas about different lesson that they want to teach and share this with other teachers who belong to that subject’s page. I feel that this will be good to use in a classroom for several reasons. First would be that it is great way to have the students get involved in the lesson because the site is so similar to face book it brings in something that they know and like and put an education twist on it as well. Also it is great way for the teacher to stay on top of how the class is doing because you can see right away who understand the lesson and who does not. The third reason is because everything is online the students can get instant gratification which many of the students like in today fast past world.
